The BuzzSugar gals caught up with Yvonne at last month’s TCA tour and talked about fight scenes, going back to high school and the future of Chuck/Sarah:
It’s slightly unnerving to talk to Yvonne Strahovski after watching her for a full season on Chuck. She’s proven herself so adept at spying, knife-throwing, and other forms of physical intimidation that it seems wise not to make any sudden movements.
Luckily for me, Strahovski didn’t seem at all interested in beating back the line of reporters who wanted to talk to her about the upcoming season of Chuck at NBC’s TCA press tour party last month. In fact, she was strikingly sweet as she talked about playing a teenaged Sarah in an upcoming episode, bringing out the romantic side of her character, and training for those fight scenes. Here are highlights:
It’s been a while since we’ve seen Chuck. What can you tell me about where we are when the new season picks up?
We pick up with the same sort of dynamic between Chuck and Sarah — they have feelings for each other, but of course they have a job to do. We do get a taste of what it might be like if Chuck wasn’t the intersect and if Sarah didn’t have to protect him. And then we get to see into Sarah’s past in episode four, when Nicole Richie’s character comes into the show. She was like the mean girl at high school and Sarah has to deal with that all over again. And it brings up a lot of demons for her because Sarah wasn’t the cool spy chick that she is [now], that we all know her to be. She was a daggy, dorky, braces, bad hair girl, and to see Nicole Richie’s character come back in her life, you know, it’s tormenting in some ways.
Do you get to play the young Sarah?
I do.
What was that like?
I had braces, as the 17-year-old Sarah Walker, and that kind of brought back old memories for me, because I used to wear braces when I was 12, and having them back on, you know, the fake ones — it was really weird. It’s amazing how much younger i look with just the braces on. We put a wig on, as well, and had bangs and brown hair. Sarah wasn’t so confident when she was in high school. We see how she evolved into the agent that she is today.

Yvonne suffered a wrist injury recently, but it wasn’t the result of one of her action-packed scenes on Chuck. “It is from reaching into my handbag at an awkward angle,” she explained to reporters. Ah, the treacherous handbag grab, we know it well.
Yvonne also spilled a bit about her new wardrobe, which has been changed up a little bit to give her more ease of motion. Speaking of her new undercover job, Yvonne says “I think the boys liked the hot- dog-stand wardrobe more than I did. I won’t tell you what the new job is, but I like the color scheme better.”
Chuck season 2 begins Monday, September 29 on NBC.

IGN has a brief Q&A with Yvonne, talking about Chuck season 2. Check it out:
IGN TV: Have you seen any Season 2 scripts yet?
Yvonne Strahovski: I’ve seen one – the first one.
IGN: Any hints you can give on what’s to come?
Strahovski: I think the only hint I can give you is that Sarah Walker will no longer be working at the Weinerlicious. There is a new place; a new workplace… and therefore, a new outfit.
IGN: Ah, a new outfit.
Strahovski: That’s all we care about, right? A new outfit! [Laughs]
IGN: [Laughs] That’s not all we care about, just part of it. Which leads me to ask… what do you think of this new outfit?
Strahovski: You know, I’ve only had one fitting so far. But the direction it’s heading in is… it’s interesting! I mean, it’ll be sexy, of course. So I’m sure people will enjoy it [as much as], if not more than the Weinerlicious outfit.
IGN: Your co-star Joshua Gomez (”Morgan Grimes”) has told me that on the Season 1 DVD, we’re going to find out what a goofball you really are. Is there truth to that?
Strahovski: Yes, yes. I recently saw a blooper reel and it’s pretty goofy. It could be goofier, but I think they toned it down a little bit, so that was nice of them! But yeah, it gets pretty goofy on set.
